Becoming Empowered Witnesses: Fulfilling Acts 1:8
Jesus Christ promises, “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”
Directions: Linger on each verse for as long as the Holy Spirit invites you. When He guides you to go to the next verse or the next step, change your physical location.
First Step:
Lord Jesus, please seal in my heart all of who you are and what you have done for me.
Before Jesus ascended into heaven he appeared to his disciples and reviewed what He had done for them and for the world. Then He gave his disciples a commission: “You are witnesses of these things. “
Ask the Holy Spirit to show you all that Jesus has done for you and for the world. Offer these things up to Jesus as words of thanksgiving.
Second Step:
Jesus, here I am! I repent of my sins and ask for your forgiveness.
Acts 2:38— “Repent and be baptized everyone of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.”
Confess your sins to Jesus, either alone or with a trusted friend according to James 5:16.
Third Step:
Ask Jesus Christ to fulfill His promise of sending the Holy Spirit upon you for power, gifts and guidance to be His witness.
“But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses…” Acts 1:8
As you pray this you may do this alone or ask for those anointed by the Holy Spirit to lay hands on you. Both are biblical ways of receiving.
“When Paul placed his hands on them, the Holy Spirit came on them, and they spoke in tongues and prophesied.” Acts 19:6
Fourth Step: Receive in faith.
Galatians 3:13‐14— “Does He who supplies the Spirit to you and works miracles among you do so by work of the law, or by hearing with faith?”
Receiving the Holy Spirit upon you for power is not based on feelings or religious experience, but on faith in the promises of God given us in the Bible. Pray for the gift of faith to receive all that Jesus wants to give you for His glory.
Fifth Step:
Obey the Holy Spirit.
Acts 5:32— “And we are witnesses to these things, and so is the Holy Spirit whom God has given to those who obey him.”
The power and gifts of the Holy Spirit are given for the purpose of being effective witnesses to Jesus Christ. As we obey the guidance of the Holy Spirit, then we experience the Holy Spirit’s power.
How much time do I need to set aside to complete the walk
Hello Dianne, the Walk is subjective to the leading of the Holy Spirit. Many find that a walk will be completed within 30 minutes to an hour. Blessings to you as you seek the Lord!
