The prophet Isaiah gives us a glimpse into what is possible when the Lord moves sovereignly to bring about a great awakening. He paints a beautiful picture of the Kingdom of God, concluding with this statement: “For the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the Lord as the waters cover the sea.” (Isaiah 11:9). It is a powerful picture of God’s presence, knowledge, and wisdom being seen worldwide, transforming our environment and our society completely.

At the Prayer Mountain, March 11–15, at the new Prayer House at the Community of the Cross, Black Mountain, NC, the focus will be to pray corporately for outpourings of the Holy Spirit that may lead to revival and the Next Great Awakening.

The Symbolism of Water in Spiritual Awakening

The image of water is often used to describe how the Lord moves through the Holy Spirit. The Spirit is described as the “living water” (John 7:38), and the Prophet Ezekiel describes a river of living water flowing from the temple and bringing life as it flows deep and wide. (Ezekiel 47). This image of an ever-deepening and widening river is a beautiful way to look at the next great awakening. In an awakening, lives are transformed, people are healed, communities are changed, and God receives all the praise and glory.

From Springs to Mighty Rivers: The Dynamics of Revival

Great rivers begin with small springs, which turn into streams. Then, as these streams combine with other streams, they become mighty rivers that flow through the land, giving life. Like springs, outpourings of the Holy Spirit give life to individuals and church communities as they flow together in the Spirit’s direction. As these streams converge, they can bring tremendous transformation.

The Holy Spirit empowers individuals to be witnesses for Jesus (Acts 1:8) and co-workers with him to expand the Kingdom of God through fulfilling the Great Commission (Matthew 28) and bringing the gospel to all nations (Matthew 24:14). As we cooperate with Jesus, the Holy Spirit can work through us to prepare the altar, ignite the fire, and sustain the flames of revival, creating the context for transformation, not just of the church but of social structures in our world.

These small spring outpourings of the Holy Spirit come as an answer to the prayers of intercessors—prayers that seek the Lord for His grace and mercy to be manifested in outpourings of the Holy Spirit.

During the NGA Prayer Mountain at the Community of the Cross, we will emphasize the foundation of the Bible as God’s Word and Jesus as King. We will look at how followers of Yeshua/Jesus, empowered by the Holy Spirit, may, through the revival keys of evangelism, Baptism in the Holy Spirit, and earnest prayer, create a context where the Holy Spirit may be poured out. As we create a context for the Holy Spirit he graciously moves in power, resulting in healing, deliverance, and greater freedom and boldness to live and witness for Jesus in the spheres of influence the Lord has placed us in.
