Jesus promised to send his disciples another Comforter after He ascended.
He instructed the disciples to wait until the Holy Spirit would come upon them so that they could be witnesses.
That day was Pentecost.
Pentecost is not a memorial.
For some, Pentecost is a day on the church calendar to remember an event described in Acts 2. It’s a day to commemorate and recall what happened. And that is all it is.
At Pentecost Sunday, worshippers might read about it, mention it in a song or two, or perhaps print something about it in a bulletin.
But Pentecost is a whole lot more than a memorial service.
Pentecost is the day the church started.
Pentecost is the day the church was born.
It is the day where the disciples were empowered by the Holy Spirit to be witnesses to the ends of the earth.
Those men and women had a powerful experience of God’s presence that changed the course of their life.
Pentecost continues to happen today.
Men and women, young and old experience the empowering work of the Holy Spirit in ways that enable them to be witnesses, to go the “greater works” that Jesus promised.
At the Dunamis Project, you learn what it means:
- to be baptized in the Spirit,
- how to walk in the empowerment of the Spirit, and
- how to grow and discover your spiritual gifts.
We are filling up our website with “Stories of Dunamis” where people share their experience in discovering how to cooperate with the Spirit.
Watch a few of them here.
