The love of the Father, the healing grace of Jesus, and the fire of the Holy Spirit rained down in sunny Southwest Florida at a recent PRMI Ignite! weekend. In early February, seven PRMI leaders from the Virginia Beach Dunamis Team traveled to Florida’s Gulf Coast to lead the first-ever Ignite! conference at Venice Presbyterian Church.

The Journey Towards Ignite!

Twelve years ago, Pastor Chris Romig gathered a small group each week to begin praying for revival.

Discovering PRMI

Remembering some PRMI newsletters that someone gave him more than two decades ago, Chris explored PRMI’s ministries and began participating in the Dunamis program at Regent University in 2022.

The Holy Spirit at Work

Over the past two years, the Holy Spirit has been moving in the Venice congregation of mostly “senior citizens,” with more prayer groups developing, more people desiring to spend time in God’s Word, and more people expressing the desire for a deeper relationship with the Holy Spirit.

Responding to the Spirit’s Call

Hearing people describe their longing for greater Kingdom purpose in their retirement years and realizing how the Spirit has been working in his own life– Pastor Chris invited the Session to prayerfully consider hosting an Ignite! weekend.

Preparing for Ignite!

After the Session’s approval, a group from Venice Presbyterian Church committed to praying for the event. Allen Kemp who co-leads with his wife Debbie, along with the co-leaders of the Virginia Beach Dunamis Track, were delighted to assemble a team (Chris Porter, Meg Rensberry, Mark Zillges, along with Bill and his wife Marie Ferree) to help lead Ignite! One: Gateways to Empowered Ministry.

The Ignite! Experience

Seventy-three people attended Ignite!, with many describing the weekend as a “life-changing event.” On Friday, the PRMI team offered prayer training to fifteen Venice church members, teaching the basics of healing prayer and “praying on the wall” (being intercessors for an event).

The Venice ministry team partnered with PRMI leaders to offer individual prayer sessions on Friday afternoons.  For many, this was the first time experiencing such Spirit-led prayer, and God brought beautiful healing!

Transformation and Renewal

At the end of Friday night’s teaching session, ten attendees came forward to publicly dedicate or re-dedicate their lives to Christ. On Saturday night, more than fifty people responded to the invitation to receive the baptism of the Holy Spirit.

The sheer joy of the weekend spilled over into the Sunday morning services, where hundreds more (who did not attend Ignite!) got a taste of the Spirit’s fire. A 93-year-old woman who was not part of the Ignite! conference but attended the Sunday morning worship expressed:

The service was amazingly powerful in that I felt the breath of God! Imagine, I still shiver as I write this, and it has never happened to me before.

The Ripple Effect

In the weeks since the Ignite! conference, people have been gathering to pray and discern how the Spirit is empowering them for ministry.

One couple began a neighborhood Bible study group with those exploring faith in Jesus. Several are feeling called to deepen the church’s prayer ministries. Some are planning to learn more by participating in the Dunamis Project. Many are rejoicing in renewed hearts and restored family relationships.

Looking Forward to Future Ignite! Weekends

The congregation is hoping to bring another Ignite! weekend to Venice.

Allen Kemp, who also leads the ongoing development of PRMI’s Ignite! ministry, reflected on the Venice Ignite! weekend:

“Wow, what an amazing time of God working in people’s lives. So much healing, so much restoration.”

The Spirit is continuing to move in this rather traditional Presbyterian congregation of mostly retirees.

“I was hopeful that the Ignite weekend would kindle deeper spiritual fire in people,” says Pastor Chris. “But the Holy Spirit accomplished –and is continuing to do– far more than I could have ever imagined!”

Host an Ignite! Weekend

Following the remarkable journey of Pastor Chris Romig and the Venice Presbyterian Church, where the Holy Spirit has ignited a revival among seniors, we believe that similar transformations await in other congregations. The Venice Ignite! Weekend witnessed profound moments of prayer, healing, and spiritual renewal, leaving attendees describing it as a “life-changing event.”

We invite you to join us in this journey towards revival by contacting Allen Kemp who co-leads with his wife Debbie, at ignite@prmi.org to host an Ignite! weekend in your local area! Together, let us prepare to experience the transformative power of the Holy Spirit and witness the ripple effect of God’s love in our communities.

We look forward to hearing from you and partnering in this incredible work of the Holy Spirit.
