PRMI’s Work of Prayer
The first vision initiative of PRMI is prayer. This is both doing the work of prayer ourselves, and mobilizing and equipping others for prayer. Prayer is our first priority because it is the key to our vital life in Jesus Christ and cooperating with the Holy Spirit. Over the years, the Holy Spirit has led us into many different program expressions to encourage the work of prayer.

From 1990 – 1995 PRMI was led to conduct a number of Prayer Mountain events in Canada and the United States. These were wonderful occasions of focused intercessory prayer often accompanied by fasting.
From 1995 until 2002, the Rev. Alan Leach was the Director of Prayer for PRMI. He developed a number of programs to encourage prayer in congregations. Some of these were the Harvest School of Prayer and Growing in Prayer. Alan was also greatly anointed for leading prayer events in local congregations.
From 1991 until 2004, PRMI also sponsored an intercessory prayer vigil at the PC(USA) General Assembly. For a number of years these were conducted by the Rev. Doug McMurry. Also a number of prayer events have been sponsored over the years at the Reformed Church in America’s General Synod.
Starting in 2004, Mary Ellen Conners has served the Coordinator of Intercessory Prayer for PRMI and the Community of the Cross -- our place set apart for the work of prayer.
PRMI offers various materials and resources for building the work of prayer. See also the sections on prayer in the Dunamis Project Equipping Events, the Dunamis Video Course for Growing the Church and the Advanced Ministry Courses
Prayer to God the Father, in the name of Jesus, and led and empowered by the Holy Spirit is the foundation to all that we do in PRMI.

Often, before major decisions are made, the Board will put aside the business and take as long as needed to seek God in prayer. We find that the more we pray together the better the business goes!

All our ministry programs and expressions that have had a part in renewing the church and advancing the Gospel of Jesus Christ have been born in prayer and sustained by prayer.
As part of our equipping process, we offer the Dunamis Project and Advanced Ministry Courses. In both of these, growing in the work of prayer, especially intercessory prayer, is an important aspect.
In addition, we have books and materials on the work of prayer; we recommend you look at Prayer that Shapes the Future: How to Pray with Power and Authority; Passage Through the Wilderness: A Journey of the Soul and Growing in Friendship with Jesus. These books and more can be found in the Resource Center.
