Ignite provides opportunity for a congregation to catch the Holy Spirit’s flame and grow in faithfulness to Jesus Christ. From a Reformed perspective, Ignite conveys a Biblical message that will enrich and empower the people of your church, enabling them to serve with joy.

The content and length of each event (which may be as short as a day) will be tailored to meet the individual needs of the participating church, and will include worship, teaching, testimonies, practical application of the teaching, prayer and community building.

The Purpose of Ignite

The purpose of the Ignite experience is to kindle or rekindle the fires of renewal in the Holy Spirit in congregations so that there may be deepening fellowship, growing faith in Jesus Christ, and empowerment to advance the Kingdom of God.

Ignite is just the beginning! Congregations will be encouraged to continue to grow and mature. This may include having another Ignite event with a different topic. There may be the continued nurturing of ministry teams and prayer groups through the Dunamis Video Project. These ten-week courses provide in-depth teaching on the topics that can only be introduced in the short Ignite events. Or, it may be that the church would continue to grow by using their own denominational resources.

At the request of the congregation, a Dunamis Fellowship member would be willing to offer continued prayer support for the pastor and leaders and assist in discernment of the next steps.

The Role of Dunamis Fellowship Members

Renewal comes not through programs or materials but through the working of the Holy Spirit through people. Dunamis Fellowship members are those men and women who have been well equipped through the PRMI Dunamis Project events, are proven in ministry, and have a great love and calling to serve local congregations. They have a passion to see congregations growing in faith, fellowship, and witness to Jesus Christ. They are anointed by the Holy Spirit for congregational renewal. They are people who are sensitive to the needs of the congregation and have the freedom to adapt our programs to fit those needs. Their agenda is to join the church leadership in listening to the guidance of the Holy Spirit.

Each congregation is unique and must carefully discern how the Ignite program or any program needs to be adjusted to fit the ways the Holy Spirit is growing the congregation. To assist in this process the Dunamis Fellowship member is to come alongside the pastor and leaders of the church to help discern what topic and format may be best suited.

There are three topics, based on the Dunamis Project content, that provide the teaching and ministry focus of the Ignite events. Each of these topics has historically been used by God to start the fires of renewal and revival.

With each of these topics comes a short teaching booklet that provides an outline and scripture for further study.

Welcome, Holy Spirit!

The story of God’s empowering work building the Church and advancing His Kingdom. Examine the exciting balance between the inward and outward working of the Holy Spirit that provides a Biblical way of growing in both the fruit and the gifts of the Holy Spirit.

Included will be teaching on:

  • The Trinity
  • Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit
  • Being filled with the Holy Spirit

The overall working of the Holy Spirit is clearly presented as that of giving glory to Jesus Christ and making His presence and work real in the world today.

Building the Body of Christ in the Power of the Holy Spirit

Engage in the dynamic of cooperating with the Holy Spirit in doing the work of Jesus Christ to accomplish the purposes of God the Father. Practical and urgent topics will be discussed:

Discussions include:

  • How do we receive guidance from the Holy Spirit?
  • How do I know that what I have received is truly from God?
  • What about the manifestational gifts of the Holy Spirit?

The emphasis of this topic is the "dance of cooperation" with the Holy Spirit in doing the work of Jesus Christ. This cooperation helps us have a balanced expression of the spiritual gifts.

Prayer in the Power of the Holy Spirit

A fresh look at becoming a praying church. Prayer in the Power of the Holy Spirit guides you into the kind of prayer you’ve been longing for: powerful, life-changing participation with your heavenly Father in bringing forth His Kingdom on earth.

Discussions include:

  • Asking in the name of Jesus Christ
  • How vision and prayer shape the future
  • Intercession as standing in the gap

The Cost of the Ignite Event: None -- This is a Gift!

PRMI and the Dunamis Fellowship have a long-standing policy of not charging for ministry. Rather, we seek to be obedient to the leading of the Holy Spirit, be faithful to Jesus Christ, offer ministry where invited, and share the vision and the needs of the work.

We invite you to share in enabling this work of renewal through prayers, participation and financial support. We ask for the opportunity to share the vision of this work and to provide an opportunity to receive an offering. It is also most helpful if a congregation would place us in its mission budget. There may be some expenses for both the congregation and the team; these will be worked out on a case-by-case basis.

We are international in scope, and offerings received in our respective countries may be used to extend ministry in other nations. Gifts are also tax exempt or gift-aided according to the laws of the nation where given.

Comments from Ignite participants . . .

“At our leadership team meeting we all expressed such awe at the working of the Holy Spirit that we witnessed and experienced. Ignite will prove to be a significant Holy Spirit-initiated and led event in the history of New Life Celebration Church.

I’m coming to a fuller understanding that the Great Commission has more to do with spiritual depth than strategies and structures. It is beginning to resonate with me that the journey from conversion to transformation, from salvation to discipleship is fully dependent on the work of the Holy Spirit. I believe that it is nearly impossible to become Christ-like without saying 'Come, Holy Spirit, come.'”

Tim Olsen
New Life Celebration Church (RCA)
Beaver Creek, MN

“Ignite was an important instrument in God’s continued work of growing our desire for and understanding of ministry that is empowered by the Holy Spirit. I have personally been inspired by the passion and servant heart displayed by the Ignite team not only during our initial Ignite experience, but prior to and following.”

Rev. John Aukema
Gateway Community Church (CRC)
Zeeland, MI

“I found that the Ignite Team was able to effectively engage our people in a process of learning about the work of the Holy Spirit. This speaks to how they each were able to present the material in a way that was catered to our people, many of whom are brand new Christians. Several people asked ‘When is the next Ignite?’, or said ‘We need more of these.’ Even just a week ago, I heard someone else refer to Ignite as a very crucial time for us at The River. Our people were truly blessed by your presence and teaching. We are indeed looking forward eagerly to the next time that you can join us, and to an ongoing process of igniting our congregation with and by the power of the Holy Spirit.”

Rev. Jonathan Vugteveen
The River (CRC)
Allegan, MI

Rev. Sally Willett the Rev. Paul Stokes presenting the vision and being prayed for by the members the Dunamis Fellowship in Britain and Ireland for her mission with husband Andrew of being Advocates for Evangelism and Renewal.

The Ignite program has touched many congregations in the United Reformed Church in the UK.

In the United Kingdom, Ignite is run as part of the ministry of GEAR (the Group for Evangelism And Renewal). It provides local churches with a basic introduction to the person and work of the Holy Spirit, drawing on abbreviated material from the 'Gateways' Dunamis Project.

Ignite is a one-day event incorporating some of the characteristic components of Dunamis: worship, teaching, discussion and prayer. The core teaching focuses on:

  • Looking at how the Holy Spirit was active in the life and ministry of Jesus Christ
  • Understanding the variety of ways that the Holy Spirit works in our lives and ministry
  • Identifying the ideas and attitudes that may block us from receiving all that God has for us
  • Exploring how we can engage in ministry through the power of the Holy Spirit

Local
Participation

Local people are encouraged to be involved as much as possible in setting up an Ignite event. Areas for participation include prayer cover, musicians for worship and hospitality (providing a welcome and refreshments). A local Event Coordinator will be needed to deal with publicity and be a contact point. Please contact us for more information.
