Introduction

internationalThe Dunamis Fellowship International (DFI) is a unique combination of a missionary society, a seminary faculty, and an intentional prayer community that enables us to meet the challenges of working for renewal and advancing the Gospel in the world today. These three aspects of the Fellowship are expressed through a variety of programs and ministries.

It is a missionary society in that a group of people are committed to the vision of fulfilling the Great Commission. Members of the society teach, preach, and witness to the gospel throughout the world. Our primary method of engagement in missions is through short-term teaching mission trips that equip national leaders for participation in the worldwide movement of the Holy Spirit for the advancement of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

It is a seminary faculty in that individuals are equipped for ministry through anointed teachers who present the biblical and theological foundations of ministry. These faculty have been trained throught the Dunamis Project and Advanced Ministry courses.
The Dunamis Project has three dynamic teaching elements: 1) systematic teaching that is biblical and reformed, 2)"lab time" - intentionally moving from theory and teaching into practice of whatever is being taught, and 3) "debriefing" - rigorously paying attention to what the Holy Spirit is doing in our midst and learning to cooperate with the Holy Spirit.

It is an intentional prayer community in that the life and work of the Fellowship is grounded in prayer. The prayers of the members will be led by the Holy Spirit. Through prayer we grow in intimacy with God, receive anointing for ministry, and open doors for advancing the gospel.

The Purpose of the Dunamis Fellowship

Founded in 2002, the purpose of the Dunamis Fellowship is to mobilize, equip and deploy Spirit-empowered witnesses for Jesus Christ.

Cindy-DFI

The Rev Cindy Strickler is the Director of the  Dunamis Fellowship International. She is co-founder of the Fellowship with the Rev. Dr. Brad Long.

Cindy has served on the PRMI Board of Directors, and left the post of President of the Board in order to provide the leadership needed for the founding of the Fellowship.

The Dunamis Fellowship functions like a prayer, equipping and missionary order with the following purpose:

To Mobilize God’s people for engagement in God’s work through prayer and casting vision. Above all, the way people get mobilized for engagement in Kingdom Work is through having an encounter with Jesus Christ. When we are caught up in the person of Jesus and catch His vision then we are mobilized to follow Him as his witnesses and disciples.

To Equip God’s people to be effective witnesses to Jesus Christ wherever they may be called. The primary way we are equipped is through growing in a personal relationship with Jesus, growing in the Bible as the Word of God, and being filled with the Holy Spirit as in Acts 1:8. for power and gifts.

We would add to that the need for a grounding in a careful study of scripture, Reformed theology, and well as practical learning in how to cooperate in ministry with the Holy Spirit.

To Deploy God’s people to be witnesses to Jesus Christ who are empowered by the Holy Spirit and advancing the Kingdom for the glory of God the Father. Through prayer and equipping, we are called to enable the sending of people into the church and the world as witnesses to Jesus.

These goals are accomplished through a variety of program offerings, written materials, the Community of the Cross, and the organization and administrative support system of PRMI and the Dunamis Fellowship.

The Need for the Fellowship

PRMI has experienced the blessing of rapid growth in opportunities for the Dunamis Project in the United States and throughout the world. The Dunamis Fellowship is the way God has led us to meet these opportunities.

1. How do we continue to deepen the equipping and empowerment of Christian leaders?
2. How do we get these trained and empowered witnesses engaged in ministry in the Church?
3. How can we get Dunamis teaching on the Holy Spirit into thousands of churches for renewal?
4. How can we respond to the many calls that come from around the world for Dunamis teaching?

The Dunamis Fellowship Organization Structure

As of January 2010, there are over 450 members of the Dunamis Fellowship. This number keeps growing. There are also some who are no longer called to express their following of Jesus Christ through the Fellowship, but still remain involved in PRMI programs and ministries.

The organization of the Dunamis Fellowship is fluid and organic: our intent is to be led by the Holy Spirit. This is based on the biblical conviction that the Holy Spirit is the director of the mission to advance the Gospel of Jesus Christ into the whole world.

The following components provide the human organization needed to create the context and means of our being led by the Holy Spirit:
  • Spiritual Fellowship of people who have been born again and are focused on the fulfillment of a common vision, who have been born again, committed to following Jesus Christ and have been baptized with the Holy Spirit.

The Dunamis Fellowship is not a congregation or a church. Rather it functions like a missionary order or an army unit to accomplish its God given mission.

  • Prayer and Worship that exalts the Father, Son and Holy Spirit is an important part of the Dunamis Fellowship Annual Meetings.

The purpose of the annual international meeting is to renew our friendships with each other do the work of prayer and listen to the Holy Spirit for guidance. These meetings are times of reporting on what God is doing and also providing ministry for one another as we are often battle-weary. These are times of intensive work of discerning how God may be calling us to develop program and how to respond to opportunities in the future.

The Regional Expressions of the Dunamis Fellowship

The Holy Spirit is moving in special ways in particular areas so we were led to establish regional and national expressions of the Fellowship with their own leadership teams who are responsible for developing their own programs and calling their own Faculty members.

These groups often have independent boards of directors and have charitable status in their respective countries. They are independent of each other yet affirm a common vision and purpose that transcends our national boundaries.

As of December 2010 the following regional  expressions have been established.

  • The Alaska Dunamis Fellowship (Established 2004)
  • The Dunamis Fellowship in Britain and Ireland (Established 2005)
  • The Dunamis Fellowship of Canada (Established 2006)

The Dunamis Fellowship International Leadership Team

This is a team with representatives from the various regional and national expressions who help provide spiritual oversight of the whole Dunamis Fellowship International.
